One Last Nod to Winter

Simon Says Stamp | In My Heart Release

The Braided Embossing Folder from the Simon Says StampIn My Heart release immediately caught my attention because the pattern reminded me of a cozy knitted sweater. Even though it is technically a braided texture, the raised pattern reads strongly as knit fabric, which made me think about winter textures.

I decided to lean into that interpretation and create one final nod to winter before moving fully into spring cards. To reinforce the cozy feeling, I paired the background with the Birdies and Winter Birdies Add-On dies from Simon Says Stamp, letting the little birds sit together on a branch wearing their winter hats.

For this design, I wanted the embossed background to feel like a warm sweater behind the birds, almost as if they were perched outside on a cold day. The Braided embossing folder creates a strong vertical texture, so I added the stitched oval panel to contain the scene and soften the structure of the background.

I also chose cool winter blues for the oval panel to contrast with the bright birds. That color shift helps the focal area stand forward while the textured white background still adds dimension across the card. Arranging the birds along the branch creates a natural horizontal line that balances the tall vertical embossing pattern behind them.

The small “happy belated birthday” sentiment sits just above the birds so it becomes part of the scene rather than a separate element.

Using the sweater-like embossing pattern as the starting point helped guide every design choice for the card. Pairing it with the winter birds felt like the perfect way to give winter one last cozy farewell.
