Hi everyone!
I’m playing around with “clustering” lately, so I wanted to try it out on a card. If you’re new to clustering, it is a (supposedly) simple technique where you layer elements to create a focal point. This technique is used a lot on mixed media, art journaling, and scrapbooking.

I’ve had an obsession with mixed media lately but…well…I’m kinda bad at it. So I’m not ready to share any of that here on my blog just yet but I’m hoping to improve and share a few things with you all.
But, I digress. Back to my card.
I started out by embossing and ink-blending the background panel and trimming down a bit to fit on my card base. I adhered it to the base with liquid glue.

I ink-blended all the dies in the Luna the Seahorse die set and assembled them with liquid glue so they were all one piece.
I then started creating my “cluster” by building layers with different shapes and other left-over die cut elements. I popped up the largest piece on my embossed panel, then used liquid glue to add the other layers, even tucking a few under each other.

I used foam adhesive to add Luna the Seahorse to the top of the cluster.
I die cut a sentiment in gold and added it to the cluster and then added a few gold bubbles to give the card a bit more shine.
I hope this card inspires you and I truly appreciate you stopping by my blog today!
Have a wonderfully creative day!
Hi, Jean –
What a gorgeous assemblage of die cuts! They totally make this card. Love the soft colors and particularly the combo of colors of coral.

Hi Jean. Thank you for sharing what clustering is. I love Luna and how you built her a beautiful scene. I look forward to seeing your mixed media. I am starting into it too and I will get some great ideas from you.
Your card is just stunning and beautifully layered with soft colors. Layering just the focal point tastefully seems to be the key. Not just a bunch of papers slapped down everywhere. I’m going to try this with a seashell die.

Thank you so much, Beth! Sorry for the delayed reply to your comment – I was on vacation. I’d love to see what you create!
