A Birthday Gift to Myself

01/01/2025

Hi there!

Today is my birthday and I’m celebrating by playing with a little gift I got for myself:  a monthly subscription to Creative Cuts from Altenew!  I love subscriptions – especially as gifts – because they bring joy and inspiration every month of the year and they give me something to look forward to!

The Creative Cuts subscription die set for this month is called “Houseplants”.  There are several different types of foliage and flowers in this set to make potted plants and hanging plants, depending on what you prefer.  I chose to use the hanging plants for my card today.

To make this card, I die cut all the pieces from white cardstock and ink-blended them in a soft palette of yellows, greens, and blues.  The colors I used are in the Supply list below.

I assembled all the pieces and decided on my card layout.

I ink-blended my card front with a bit of yellow so that the plants and pots would stand out from the background but still feel soothing and harmonious.

I adhered one of the potted plants to the card front using liquid glue and the other using foam adhesive.  This gave the card some added depth and interest.

I used some white gloss spray to splatter the card for an artistic feel.  I love the look that splatters give!

There is a “hugs” sentiment die included in the Houseplants die set but I had a recipient in mind for this card and decided to use the “Hello” from the Timeless Sentiment dies set (not part of the subscription) instead.

Lastly, I added a few yellow gems for some sparkle and shine!

I love how this card turned out and I am SO looking forward to getting this subscription every month!

I hope you have a wonderfully creative day!

Hi Jean. I think your cards is so pretty. The way you shaded the flowers really add so much depth and detail. I love the color palette you chose. The hangers for the baskets are a unique touch.

I fell in love with card-making many years ago and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. I love trying out new techniques and finding the perfect color combination for whatever I’m creating.

By nature, I am an uber-organizer and a steadfast planner, but as you’ll see, my creations are much more fluid. And while I love color theory, the concept of lights and shadows, and the importance of depth and perspective – these are not things I worry about when it comes to my creations.

I simply find joy in creating and delight in sharing.

I hope that by sharing my cards and other art with you here on my blog I can inspire you to create something you love!
