Dear Friend Poppies

Spellbinders | Wildflowers Collection by Lisa Horton
05/19/2025

Hi everyone!

There’s something timeless about a red poppy — bold, elegant, and full of meaning. For this card, I reached for the Wildflowers Collection by Lisa Horton for Spellbinders and used the poppy die from the set to build this simple yet powerful design. That said — this card would look just as lovely using any of the flowers in the set… or even a mix of them! 🌼🌸🌺

I kept the design crisp with a vibrant red backdrop and a stitched arch panel to frame the florals. A little black twine and a sweet tag sentiment tied the whole thing together — literally!

Design Highlights

  • 🌺 Poppin’ Poppies – I used the poppy die from Lisa Horton’s wildflower set, but this layout would work beautifully with any of the included florals!
  • 🎯 Framed Focus – A sweetly-edged arch panel grounds the blooms and draws the eye.
  • 🏷️ Tag it! – I turned a simple sentiment strip into a tag using an eyelet and twine for a personal, handmade touch.
  • 🎨 High Contrast – That red-on-red background gives the card warmth and impact without being too busy.
  • 🖤 Tied Together – The black twine adds a lovely contrast and just enough dimension.

Whether it’s for a birthday, a thank you, or a “just because,” this wildflower set gives you endless ways to create with heart 🌸

I hope you have a wonderfully creative day!

I fell in love with card-making many years ago and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. I love trying out new techniques and finding the perfect color combination for whatever I’m creating.

By nature, I am an uber-organizer and a steadfast planner, but as you’ll see, my creations are much more fluid. And while I love color theory, the concept of lights and shadows, and the importance of depth and perspective – these are not things I worry about when it comes to my creations.

I simply find joy in creating and delight in sharing.

I hope that by sharing my cards and other art with you here on my blog I can inspire you to create something you love!
