I don’t think I’ve ever looked at a Halloween card and thought, “You know what this needs? A map.”
And yet… here we are.
One of the things I love most about cardmaking is that every once in a while an idea pops into your head that’s just weird enough that you have to see if it works. There wasn’t a stencil. There wasn’t a die. There wasn’t a pattern. I grabbed the chisel tip of a gray Copic marker, started drawing winding roads, and hoped for the best. A white gel pen added the lane markings, and suddenly I had a neighborhood.
That’s when the rest of the idea clicked into place.

Instead of scattering candy around the card as decoration, it became the trick-or-treat stops along Frankenstein’s route. The roads weren’t just a background anymore. They became part of the story.
This card is definitely busier than what I usually create, but I think that’s part of its charm. Halloween gives us permission to loosen up a little, embrace the playful side of crafting, and not worry quite so much about following our own “rules.”
Honestly, I think I should ignore my own rules more often.
