Hi there!
I hope everyone is having a great summer!
Today I’m sharing a couple of cards I created that feature layering floral dies where I “formed” or “shaped” the petals and leaves to give the card some fabulous dimension.
I absolutely love making flowers from paper and from cloth. I haven’t had a lot of time this summer, but I have had this Sulfur Cosmos dies set (from Altenew) for months and I really wanted to make time to play with it. So when I had a bit of free time, I thought I’d use the dies and try to “form” the flowers and just see how it turned out.
Well, I gotta say, I love them!
For each of these cards I die cut the petals and leaves out of specialty paper from Spellbinders (see Supply list below for all the products I used). I love this paper because it easily handles the pressure and manipulation that is needed to form the petals without tearing. I do think you could use regular cardstock for this if you are careful.
I ink blended both sides of all the layers of the flowers and the leaves – it is important to add color to both sides because you will be able to see the backside of the petals once they are formed/shaped.
I then used my flower forming tools (mostly just the ball tools and a foam pad) to get the petals to bend upward in a nice curve and to get the leaves to bend backward just a bit.
I assembled the flowers, which did flatten them out a bit, but I think that worked out perfectly for the Cosmos which realistically tend to be a flatter flower anyway.
I created my backgrounds – one using a wood grain embossing folder and the other using a lattice-like die cut over some ink blending.
I assembled my flowers and leaves onto my backgrounds and then onto the card bases.
For the final touches, I heat embossed a couple of sentiments and added a few gems.
I hope you like these cards and that they will inspire you to add some dimension to your flowers.
Have a wonderfully creative day!
