For my card on the hop, I’m excited to share a fun design that highlights the beauty of the new Stacked Blooms Embossing Folder.  This card uses a simple – yet striking – spotlight technique – along with some hand-drawn details to bring out the delicate stacked flowers in the embossing folder.

Design Highlights

🎯 Spotlight Technique – I masked off a circular area and softly ink-blended a light shade of blue within the circle.  I then embossed the panel, reapplied the mask, and lightly ink-blended a couple of darker shades over the embossed flowers and added some green to the flower centers.  This created a focal point that stands out against the crisp white background.

🖊 Fine Point Detailing – To add depth and definition, I used a fine-point marker to accentuate the individual petals and flower centers, giving the flowers a hand-drawn look.  I also used a Prismacolor pencil to softly go around the outside edges of the petals for more depth.

🖤 Finishing Touches – A bold black “hello” sentiment, a bit of black-and-white twine, and a scattering of dusk-colored gems complete the design with contrast and just the right amount of sparkle.

I love how this card turned out and I hope you do, too!

I fell in love with card-making many years ago and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. I love trying out new techniques and finding the perfect color combination for whatever I’m creating.

By nature, I am an uber-organizer and a steadfast planner, but as you’ll see, my creations are much more fluid. And while I love color theory, the concept of lights and shadows, and the importance of depth and perspective – these are not things I worry about when it comes to my creations.

I simply find joy in creating and delight in sharing.

I hope that by sharing my cards and other art with you here on my blog I can inspire you to create something you love!
