Thank You with a Twist – Blackout Technique

Simon Says Stamp | Moments in Time Release
06/01/2025

Hi there!

Today’s card features a rich navy twist on a trendy technique — and I’m loving how it turned out! I used the Floral Bundles embossing folder and Giggle Thank You die from the Moments In Time release by Simon Says Stamp, and gave the design a bold, moody backdrop using a navy version of the popular Blackout technique. The result? A thank-you card that’s full of contrast, color, and hand-colored charm 💐

By coloring the embossed floral design and letting those vibrant pinks and greens pop against deep blue, this card feels both modern and classic — the perfect mix for heartfelt thanks.

 Design Highlights:

  • 🎨 Navy “Blackout” Technique – Instead of the traditional black, I used navy blue for the background — still dramatic, but a touch softer.
  • 🌸 Embossed + Colored Florals – The Floral Bundles embossing folder is the star here, water colored in vivid pinks and leafy greens for bold contrast.
  • 📝 Layered Sentiment – The Giggle Thank You die adds playful charm with a crisp white pop against the moody background.
  • 🧵 Wrapped in Twine – A white twine bow adds texture and a little extra sweetness.
  • 💎 Finishing Touches – A few pearls give it a polished, elegant finish.

This card proves that thank-you notes don’t have to be soft and subtle — they can be bold, colorful, and full of personality! 💌

Have a wonderfully creative day, everyone!

I fell in love with card-making many years ago and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. I love trying out new techniques and finding the perfect color combination for whatever I’m creating.

By nature, I am an uber-organizer and a steadfast planner, but as you’ll see, my creations are much more fluid. And while I love color theory, the concept of lights and shadows, and the importance of depth and perspective – these are not things I worry about when it comes to my creations.

I simply find joy in creating and delight in sharing.

I hope that by sharing my cards and other art with you here on my blog I can inspire you to create something you love!
