Waffle Flower Kit #04 – Sea You Soon!

04/25/2024

Hi everyone!

It’s sneak peek time!  My card today features products from Sneak Peek Club #04!

Waffle Flower is once again providing a GIVEAWAY* to one of my blog readers (that would be YOU) if you comment on this blog post by April 30, 2024.  The GIVEAWAY* is Kit #04 – the same kit I used to make my card for today!  Winners are picked at random from the comments on my blog.  *the GIVEAWAY can only be shipped to the US.

Ok. Let’s get to the details about my card!

When I saw this kit, I pictured myself under a beach umbrella, watching the gentle waves, as the sun went down over the water.  What a wonderful way to spend an evening!

To make this card:

  1. Use the Sea Foam stencil to create the water: start with the yellow glow from the sun so you get the correct placement of your sunset.  Then, add in the blues but be careful not to go too much into the yellow or you will end up with green water. Turn your stencil 180 degrees and repeat ink blending – this will give you the depth in the water.  Set that panel aside.
  2. Die cut the medium and small umbrellas from the Beach Umbrella die & Stencil set.
  3. Use a score board to score lines in each of the umbrella die cuts in order to give them a bit more dimension.
  4. Use the stencil to ink blend your colors onto your umbrella.  I used Post-it tape to mask off portions of the stencil and umbrella in order to get the color combination I wanted.
  5. Create you sand by roughly ink blending a panel of white cardstock with a light sand color (all of the colors I used are linked in the Supplies section below).  Then splatter the panel with that color, a darker shade of brown or black, and white.
  6. Tear the sand panel to get the foam edge (or, you can tear the stenciled water panel – either will give you the wave foam effect).  Tip:  when you tear, the portion of the cardstock you pull toward you will NOT give you that white edge.  So be sure to hold your cardstock so that you get that white edge on the portion you want.
  7. On another panel, ink blend your sun.  Note: you may need to figure out the arrangement of all of your panels before you do this step so that your sun is properly aligned with the glow you stenciled in the water.
  8. Arrange and adhere your sun, water, and sand panels together, then die cut them with a stitched die.
  9. Add the stitched panel to a card front using foam adhesive.
  10. Adhere your umbrellas using foam adhesive on the bottom/larger umbrella, then again on the second layer of the umbrella.
  11. Select a sentiment from the Shore Subsentiments and use a black marker to color the white edge.
  12. Adhere your sentiment with a combination of foam tape and liquid glue.
  13. Add some iridescent gems for some shine!

I hope you like this card and that it inspires you to create something today!  I can’t wait to see what you make with this kit (and any of the others)!  Be sure to tag me if you are inspired by this card (@jean.studiojd) so that I can see your beautiful creations!

Have a wonderfully creative day!

Hi Jean. Your card makes me feel the ocean breeze in my hair and smell the salty ocean. I can’t wait until summer. The little beach umbrella is adorable. It’s a cool touch the way you made the sun ripple across the water. The way you display your cards always make me smile. I like how you arranged the shells, sand dollar and starfish today.

I fell in love with card-making many years ago and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. I love trying out new techniques and finding the perfect color combination for whatever I’m creating.

By nature, I am an uber-organizer and a steadfast planner, but as you’ll see, my creations are much more fluid. And while I love color theory, the concept of lights and shadows, and the importance of depth and perspective – these are not things I worry about when it comes to my creations.

I simply find joy in creating and delight in sharing.

I hope that by sharing my cards and other art with you here on my blog I can inspire you to create something you love!
