Hi there!
Today I’m sharing a sweet little winter-themed card that I made using my new pastel pencils. I’d never used pastel pencils before, but I was inspired to try them by a couple of fellow designers (@vjsjoey and @sammakescards) who created some beautiful cards using this medium.

To make this card, I used Pastelmat paper – which has a sandpaper-like texture and is designed to work with pastel pencils. I stamped the penguin from the Simon Says Stamp Warm Heart stamp set using Shadow Gray archival ink and set about coloring him.
I had intended to color this penguin as a practice piece for another card but when I was done with him I just couldn’t resist turning him into a card front.

I created a mask to cover him and placed an A2 mask over the top to create a frame. Then I created a snowbank mask toward the bottom.
I ink-blended the sky and then removed only the snowbank mask. I added in some snow hills free-hand with my pastel pencils, then removed the A2 mask and the mask over the penguin.
Because I hadn’t originally intended to make this a card, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with the penguin but I decided that I’d add some glitter snowballs and make it look like he was juggling. I used a simple hole punch to punch out some dots from white glitter paper and then I popped them up using foam adhesive.

I’m so happy with this card! I hope you like it and that it may inspire you to try a new medium – you never know how things might turn out!
Have a wonderfully creative day, everyone!
Your penguin is adorable. You colored him beautifully. I love how you made the glittery snowballs for him to juggle.
