My Card in SCT Magazine

11/17/2024

Hi everyone!

Last month I posted that I was featured in Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine, so I thought I’d share a bit more information about that card here on my blog.  Here’s a link to the magazine in case you missed it: Fall/Winter 2024 issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today!

I know we are well past Halloween so the “Boo” sentiment on this card is a bit out of date; however, I think the focal image of the cat and the pumpkin would still work well for any fall card if you added a different sentiment.

When I was designing this card, I was looking for ways to get additional value from some of my supplies.  I thought it might be good if I could …selectively…  combine portions of a stamp and portions of a die to create my own focal image.  That way, I’d get more use out of the stamps and more use out of the dies.

So, for this card,  I used a portion of a stamp (the adorable cat) and combined it with a die (the pumpkin).

Now, the original stamp already has the cat peeking out of a pumpkin – so I could have just used that – but I wanted my focal point to be a bit bigger than the image provided in the stamp set and I was looking for some added dimension.  By adding the cat to a pumpkin die cut, I was able to achieve both of those goals.

There are 2 tricks to making this work out well.  The first, is making sure that the scale of the two products you are combining work well together.  The second, is in strategically fussy cutting out the parts of either the die or the stamped image that you want to use.  If the scale is right, and you can fuzzy cut so your pieces come together, you should be golden!

I hope you like this card and that my technique and tips for combining products is helpful and that you are inspired to combine some of your own products and create your own focal points.

Have a wonderfully creative day!

I fell in love with card-making many years ago and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. I love trying out new techniques and finding the perfect color combination for whatever I’m creating.

By nature, I am an uber-organizer and a steadfast planner, but as you’ll see, my creations are much more fluid. And while I love color theory, the concept of lights and shadows, and the importance of depth and perspective – these are not things I worry about when it comes to my creations.

I simply find joy in creating and delight in sharing.

I hope that by sharing my cards and other art with you here on my blog I can inspire you to create something you love!
