Hi everyone!
Can you believe it’s already September? It’s the 6th of them month and that means the NEW Spellbinders Clubs are released to NON Club Members! If you haven’t signed up, I hope my card today inspires you to do so! Here is a bit more information about the Clubs, in case you’re interested:
For my card today, I used one of the fall images from the set – the oak leaves with the acorns. For some reason acorns and oak leaves signal fall for me. Do you have any icons that make you think of fall no matter what time of year it is?
I decided to try a technique called “thumping” for the leaf/acorn image. This technique involves tapping different colors of ink onto one stamp before stamping it. I find it works best with ink cubes, which are small and easier to control, but you could certainly try this with full size ink pads if that’s what you have.
I used 5 different colors of my Distress inks (colors are listed below in the Supplies list). Because there is really no way to avoid a tiny bit of cross-contamination in the colors, I always start with my lightest color. That way the stamp is clean and I don’t risk getting any of the darker colors mixed in.
Once I had enough color on the stamp, I stamped it onto white cardstock and die cut it with the coordinating die that comes with the Club.
I then used that same image to do a tone-on-tone stamping on a kraft-colored tag. For this, I used Versamark ink and repeatedly stamped the oak/acorn image onto the tag. The nice thing about using Versamark is that it gives you a perfect tone-on-tone effect for any color of cardstock and you don’t have to try to find the perfect shade for this effect.
I die cut a few accent leaves from the Autumn Wonders die set that was released last year – ink blending them in the same colors I used to stamp my acorn and oak image.
I used the Loops embossing folder for the background, added a sentiment from the Club set, along with a few gems and some twine, and my card was complete.
I hope you have a wonderfully creative day!
Thank you for always reading my comments. Your are one of the few blogs I follow because I love your style. I don’t have any social media to post on, but when I try to Ink Thump will send it to your e-mail.
Hi Bo! I do try to respond to all the comments – I notice that my blog is only sometimes notifying me about them so I will try to watch them a bit closer! I would love an email with a picture of your ink-thumping! Thank you so much!
Hi Jean. I always enjoy seeing your card displays. Fall is almost here, and I can’t wait. The signal Fall is here for me is my gorgeous Ginkgo tree’s leaves turn bright yellow. It is just stunning. All the neighbors love it. Your card is so pretty, and I love the layout and colors. Thank you telling me about ink thumping I will have to pull out my leaves. inks and Loops Embossing folder and try this look.
Hi Bo! Your Ginko tree sounds spectacular! If you try ink thumping be sure to let me know how you like it! It is one of my favorite techniques!
