Now… on to my card. For my stop on the hop I’m featuring some fun window cards because…well… Tim Holtz’s Monster Reunion stamps seemed to just tell me that’s how they wanted to be used and….well… I’m not arguing with a monster. 🙂
When Simon Says Stamp released coordinating dies for the set, I immediately started thinking beyond simply cutting out the images. I wanted the monsters to feel like they were interrupting the scene rather than standing in it.
That’s where the windows came in.
A window is such a simple design element, but it instantly creates a narrative. Is the monster outside looking in? Has it already made its way inside? Are we the ones peeking into their world? The beauty is that the card never answers those questions. It lets your imagination do the work.
After coloring the images with OLO markers, the coordinating dies made it easy to layer everything around the windows and play with perspective. Suddenly these weren’t just Halloween characters anymore. They became curious visitors who happened to show up at exactly the wrong… or right… time.
I think that’s one of the things I enjoy most about scene building. It’s less about decorating a card and more about creating a moment. Sometimes all it takes is one window to make you wonder what happens next.
